Local bill allows possible legal action over wastewater scheme   

Kaipara District Council commissioners have approved the wording of a local bill aimed at resolving historical rating errors made by previous councils.  However, they stressed again that a local bill would not stop Kaipara District Council from potentially taking legal action against those responsible for matters in relation to the expansion of the Mangawhai Community Wastewater Scheme.

Council reviews staffing requirements

Kaipara District Council has moved to boost its in-house capacity and lessen its reliance on external consultants.

The council will advertise for four rols: a planning and Community General Manager, Revenue Manager, Planning Engineer, and Resource Consents Team Leader.

Youth Scholarships awarded

Every year, the Otamatea Repertory Theatre presents a youth scholarship award to a deserving teenager.

More than 5,400 rescue missions were undertaken by local rescue helicopters around New Zealand last year including just over a thousand patients carried in Northland alone.

Women on equal footing in electricity sector

Two former Northland women have become the first in New Zealand to qualify as cable jointers in the electricity sector.

Dargaville’s Robyn Dawes, 25, and Whangarei’s Aroha McLean, 43, are formally certified cable jointers after three years.
