Ed Said - Any storm in a port

At least we’ve had some respite the past month from the political haranguing of ‘major’ issues but with councils and Government to resume shortly we’ll be back in the groove in no time.

Mayors Memo

Kia ora, Parched soils, hot temperatures and dry days make it clear summer’s here in Kaipara. Happy New Year from a hot place. Great for holidays and camping adventures under azure skies, helping us make the most of the summer school holidays but not so good for water supplies.

Letter to the Editor

More traffic chaos
Last week’s editorial endorsing the Wood Street One Way System has avoided a crucial point in the discussion: the dramatic effect that this has had on surrounding residential streets.

Police Snippets

Helping shape your Kaipara Local police say they have had a ‘crazy busy time’ over the festive season, maintaining a visible presence with ongoing patrols between Mangawhai and Wellsford, and responding to a range of misdemeanours, call-outs and lost property reports.

Feeling a bit washed out over summer?

We have had an amazing summer. It’s been hot and dry with a lot of wind. This leads to faded brows and lashes with dehydrated skins. We can’t possibly drink enough water to reach our skin, all the other vital organs in our body need it first.

Gardening with Gael - Vegetable gardens need commitment

My vegetable garden is a sorry sight. All that survived me being away either died or went to seed except for the curly kale which grew about another ten centimetres and now look like miniature palm trees.

Worzels World - A close Encounter of the Absurd kind

Much time has passed since I reported on my first sobering and not inconsequential encounter with the alien. Since that time UFO sightings have increased dramatically around the world and practically anyone worth their weight in cosmic awareness has been abducted and molested by some sort of alien or other.

Busy beach but good conditions says lifeguard service
