Letter to the editorMore traffic chaos My good friends, who recently bought a house in Findlay Street, upgrading it in good faith, now have streams of unwelcome traffic passing their front door. I imagine many of the residents in the area are as upset as they are. However, that problem serves to highlight a much bigger problem. We moved here from Auckland over six years ago and have been equally alarmed by the increasing traffic congestion without sufficient infrastructure to cope with it. Things are only going to get much worse! Imagine the impact of the proposed (Mangawhai) Central development including a major supermarket and lots more housing. How long will it take, for example, to sort out the chaotic junction at the heart of the Village? The Maz has a fantastic park with Olympic skateboard facility, but the lack of a decent footpath to the Heads or the residential streets below it is unthinkable. We're not running out of time – we have run out of time. Perhaps Winston can transfer the money he has promised to fix the one way bridges in Northland at the last election to this more immediate need? Peter Lyne |
