Artists celebrate with new work8 Aug, 2022
The new exhibition season at Mangawhai Artists Gallery opened last Thursday evening with the annual August Members’ Exhibition. Artists and friends gathered to celebrate the start of a new exhibition season with an eclectic selection of work created over the last year. Thirty-six artists covering a range of media contributed work, with prices ranging from $95 to $1000. “Members’ exhibitions are always exhilarating – and a real team effort,” says Nicola Everett, curator of the August exhibition. “This one is no different. There is a huge variety of work, different shapes and sizes, media, technique, framing and content. It’s daunting when the works first arrive and are spread around the gallery. But then it comes together into a cohesive and impressive showcase of creative talent.” The teams supporting the curator include those receiving the works, compiling the documentation, hanging the works, adjusting lighting and organising rosters and social media promotion. The exhibition includes 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional work from artists new to Mangawhai Artists together with long standing members. Acrylics, oils, pencil, pen and inks, photography, watercolours, ceramics, recycled wood and gourds are all on display. “There is something for everyone, says Belinda Vernon, chair of Mangawhai Artists. “All exhibits are for sale. They are reflective, appealing and affordable. Exhibiting artists will also be staffing the gallery for the duration of the exhibition so we encourage visitors to chat to the person on duty and find out more about the motivation and passion for their particular art form.” n The exhibition, at 45 Moir St, Mangawhai, is open from 10am to 3pm each day until midday on Wednesday August 17.
Steve Marsh, Elena Nikolaeva and Rose Cranswick put the finer touches on their art display.
