Kids go for goldSchools around the land will be closing down again for two weeks on September 23, giving students – and teachers – a break from their study routines.
Amidst the range of local holiday activities available for primary school children, is CauseWay Church’s bi-annual Holiday Club programme, with this year’s theme, Going for Gold, inspired by the recent Olympic Games. CauseWay Kids Pastor Jan Chambers says the programme, held between October 3-5 and run by a group of dedicated and police vetted volunteers, is designed to cover values such as direction, determination and decoration. “The vision behind the Holiday Club is to present a Bible-based programme that is fun and exciting and appeals to children in school years 1-6,” she says. “Each day consists of games, craft activities, Bible stories, a drama, competitions and heaps of fun!” CauseWay Church has organised school holiday programmes since 2005, starting out in the small church at Moir Street with 50 children. Due to the popularity of the programme, the Holiday Club is now held at Mangawhai Recreation Centre, with 100-120 children attending from both the local Mangawhai community and the nearby Tomarata, Kaiwaka and Maungaturoto. Parents and caregivers are invited to attend the last afternoon to experience some of what their children have been involved in. “We love being able to offer this programme free of charge to the families of our community,” Chambers says. “And to share the love and reality of Jesus with others!” n For more information on the programme email jan@causewaychurch.org.nz |
