Self-development aim of free ag course

Taratahi Agricultural Centre runs Generate – a free self-development programme that takes place throughout New Zealand from Northland to Southland. Participants are typically already working in agribusiness and rural servicing organisations or are on farm either as an employee or an employer.

Generate maximises personal and professional potential through a series of interactive and supportive workshops. Participants who complete the programme will gain a nationally recognised Certificate in Rural Leadership.

Generate participant Toby Williams found the course extremely helpful.

“It helped me change jobs from being a farm worker to a farm manager. Because of Generate the transition between these two roles was made much easier. I’d recommend the programme to anyone who is looking to further their careers in the agricultural industry.”

“The programme was also delivered in a really clever way; it was entertaining and informative and was something to look forward to each month. It was also great meeting people from different areas in the rural industry and learning more about their work.”

Taratahi’s Rural Leadership Programme Manager Clarissa Wallace encourages anyone interested in self-development look at Generate.

“The feedback we’ve had from our participants has been awesome, they tell us that they use the skills they pick up in the programme in everyday life and it’s really made a positive difference to them. It only takes one phone call to change the direction of your life, so pick up the phone and give Generate a go.”

Generate programmes are free for 2013. Graduates will understand the challenges involved with starting out in the workforce, taking on a new role, speaking out, making meetings work, coping with change, building a team, dealing with conflict and understanding rural organisations in their community.

The next Generate programme is in Wellsford on Friday October 11, 10am-3pm. Call 0800 827 2824 to find out more about the free self-development programme.
