Activity Day to showcase MAZ facilities

- By Julia Wade

20 MF-MAZactivityday-292Mangawhai’s favourite fun and leisure park will be on show come late October, at an event which aims to publicise an expansive range of facilities.

Mangawhai Activity Zone’s [MAZ] Active Day is scheduled for October 22, Labour Weekend, a first for the park, where all the activities and sports areas will be showcased in one day.

MAZ committee member Ken Rayward says the Zone, and the day, is designed to suit everyone.

“With its amazing range of activities, MAZ provides for all ages and all fitness stages,” he says. “If you haven’t been to MAZ recently, come and enjoy this Mangawhai treasure.”

Special guest, former New Zealand cricketer Brendon Bracewell, will be conducting a number of competitions for junior cricketers including fast bowling challenges measured for speed using modern high tech laser sensors and innovative ball hitting devices.

Netball, basketball, pump bike tracks and mountain biking, beach volleyball, junior soccer and a variety of children’s games and crafts will also be free for participation.

Guided tours along extensive walking paths through the bush area are on offer and afternoon highlights include high action demonstrations in the skate bowl and on the new outdoor fitness centre.

“It will also be the official launch for amazing locals Emma Kent and Corey Bradford who will be competing in the 2018 Mongol Rally, a 15,000km charity race across Europe,” he says. “They have selected MAZ as their chosen charity recipient for funds raised throughout the rally.”

Emma and Corey will be manning BBQ’s during the day, helping to serve up kebabs, burger sliders and sausages. Popular trailer cafe Cool Beans will also be reopening for the summer season on the day, stationed at MAZ to provide a range of refreshments.

The day is also designed to boost funds for the park with car stickers available to buy and an assortment of refreshments for a donation.

“Entry is free but parking will be tight as this will be a very popular day,” Rayward says. “So where possible it will be ideal to walk from home to MAZ and enjoy being active.”
