Popularity surge for Cubs and ScoutsWith a van supplied by the Kaipara Sports Association, Mangawhai and Kaiwaka Scouts went on a weekend trip to Auckland recently as part of their Founders Day celebrations.
Troops enjoyed raft building and racing, and a visit to the Westpac Trust Rescue helicopter. Pictured lashing their raft together are local Scouts (from left) Jade Tornquist, Carlos Oltersdorf, Brayden Wintle and Hannah Mills. Back at headquarters, there’s more kids than they can handle, which is a good sign says Bruce Ferguson. “Our troop has so many children on the waiting list that we are wanting to open another session to accommodate them but we need help – people who can be patrol or assistant leaders, or help in any way possible.” The new session for Keas, Cubs and Scouts at the Hakaru Den will be on a Tuesday 5.30pm-7pm. Contact Bruce on 431 2542 or 021 431254. Cubs and Scouts have also been busy gathering sheep manure and are selling it as a fundraiser for their Troop. To purchase a sack of dry sheep manure contact Carol Mills on 431 2044. Just $7 a sack. The Scouts and Cubs are selling delicious pies, sausage rolls and lamingtons through the Oxford Pies Fundraiser to raise money for their Troop. Refer to the order form in this edition of the Mangawhai Focus. If you have any queries on the Scouts Pies Fundraiser, please contact Cheryl Anderson on 431 2051 or email kaiwakasports@gmail.com. Another bonus for the Troop has seen them recently granted $1,260 by the Infinity Foundation towards national affiliation fees. |
