Contribution recognised Finishing in May the Mangawhai bowls season was marked with a celebration presentation evening and dinner at The Club where local bowlers were recognised for their efforts during the season both in club and centre tournaments. At the Bowls Northland Awards and Prize Giving dinner Len Lawrence was recognised for his long and significant contribution to the game, receiving the Award for Service to Bowls. Len has held many positions both at centre and club level since the mid 80s. Annual General Meeting Mangawhai Bowling Club’s AGM was also held in late May where new officers were elected for the next season: Patron Walter Wintle; President Dundee Henwood; Vice President Ross Hollingsworth; Secretary Ash Gibbs; Treasurer Carol Neal; Chairperson Match Committee Ron Heaton; Club Captain Neville Franks. Winter activity high During the winter many bowlers have kept themselves busy by entering tournaments throughout Northland, Auckland and the Bay of Plenty regions, playing on all-weather greens. Near to home regular events have been held at Maungaturoto and Wellsford and been well attended by club members. Earlier this month a full bus of bowlers attended the international undercover bowling centre in Pukekohe and were in awe at the facilities. Paul Freeman has other trips planned to clubs over the coming weeks.
