Leabourn’s New Plymouth/Taranaki Getaway Tour

Cart-approaching-tunnel-24 copy(copy)October 13–17, 2014, promises to be an interesting and fun-filled week. Leabourns buses set off on Monday morning with a stop for morning tea at the Drury Autobahn before heading to The Big Apple Cafe at Otorohanga for lunch. On to The Devon Hotel at New Plymouth - home away from home for the next four nights - a complimentary drink will mark the official beginning of the tour.

Tuesday takes you to Emacadamia, a macadamia farm like you will never have seen before with Christine and Bill Charteris ensuring a very enjoyable tour. Next, on to Pukeiti and a wander amongst the rhododendrons which will be in full flower. Then it’s back to New Plymouth for some retail therapy (time permitting) or a tiki tour of New Plymouth including Pukekura Park and the Port area.

Wednesday promises a great adventure travelling to Douglas to meet guides from the Forgotten World golf carts scenic tour. Half of the group will travel to Whangamomona on the carts with the rest travelling by coach. After lunch at Whangamomona those that travelled on the coach will travel back to Douglas on the carts and the remainder will return by coach. The Whangamomona Hotel has an interesting and varied menu which will suit all tastes.

Another full day on Thursday takes our tourists to Inglewood to visit the Fun Ho! National Toy Museum and foundary. Established in 1942, these classic hand-made toys are still made today and if the toy maker is in-house and the furnace is fired up you are welcome to watch him at his craft. The afternoon visit is to the Hazelwood Horse Ornament Collection in Kaponga. Here you will meet a real character, Shirley Hazelwood, who has heirlooms from the 1600’s and a more recent collection of mats, ornaments and jewellery that pay tribute to horses, and all this achieved from her wheelchair. The return trip will take us around the mountain back to New Plymouth checking out the famous west coast surf beach of Opunake

Friday will be heading home but with a hatfull of memories and smartphones loaded with pictures of an enjoyable and memorable trip – but please book soon as places are limited. Bookings close (unless fully booked prior) on September 12.
