Magical Mangawhai now Musical Mangawhai...
Last week, Sail Rock hosted a Ukulele Jam with Max Maxwell, and the place was packed with enthusiastic players both young and old who enjoyed a strumming sing-along, plus the opportunity to listen to some first-class performers. Participation is the thing, so tune in to what's on.

Mangawhai World Song Choir
Conducted by new resident Bert van Dijk, this choir is gathering people together on Monday evenings, 7.30pm through to 9pm in the Mangawhai Library hall. Open to anyone who enjoys singing with others, participants are intro-duced to an exciting repertoire of polyphonic songs from around the world, each capturing a unique rhythm and mood. Bert is a singer, voice teacher, and theatre director of international repute, who also conducts a number of World Song Choirs throughout New Zealand. How lucky we are to have him resident in our community. The first gathering attracted over 20 people and as word spreads, we could well have a very strong choir. If you would like more info, contact Bert on 431 3301, mob 021 185 7956, email bertvd@ clear.net.nz. Sessions are $10 waged, $6 unwaged, and the village hall is lovely and warm with the installation of heat pumps!

Dixie Street Jazz
Band En route to the Bay of Islands Jazz Festival, DSJB will be playing at Sail Rock restaurant on Thursday August 7 for a special dinner and show starting at 6.30pm. You really will need to book as soon as possible as this group is quite some-thing and the evening will really get you go-ing! Phone 431 4051.

Totally Uked
Mangawhai's own little ukulele group is growing slowly. Totally Uked meets every Friday afternoon from 1pm-2pm in the room behind the CauseWay Church opposite Bennetts in Moir St. If you think you might like to have a go, this is the group to join. You'll be shown how to hold a ukulele, basic strumming and a few chords to get you go-ing. It's a lot of fun, and there is no pressure! Just $2 a session covers room hire and photocopied music. Give Jo Roberts a ring on 431 4711 if you want any more info.

Open Mic Night Then there's Mangawhai Music Makers or Open Mic at 7pm, on the first Tuesday of the month at Sail Rock. Next session Tuesday August 5.

Just come along and write your name on the blackboard if you wish to perform, or simply come along to listen. Just $2 cover charge. Sound system, piano, refreshments, it's al-ways quite a night and you never know who is going to surprise with a performance.
