Top of the Rock an event for all agesThe Kaiwaka Sports Association’s annual multi-sport event, the Top of the Rock, takes place next month. Scheduled for Sunday February 10, participants can climb Baldrock Mountain, with fantastic views across to the Kaipara Harbour. It’s a unique opportunity, with the mountain closed to the public for the rest of the year. An event for the casual or serious competitor, there is a range of options including 5km or 10km walk or run; 10km run with 14km mountain bike ride; and new this year, 30km mountain bike ride. Age or ability is no barrier. Over 200 participants last year ranged in age from 2 to 79-years-old. Television personality Brendon ‘Money Man’ Johnson will again host the prizegiving. The major spot prize is a Trek 3000 mountain bike, donated by My Bike. Organisers will also draw a raffle for a Rover Q 4000 lawnmower, kindly donated by Steve from Kaiwaka Motorcyles. Free overnight camping at the Kaiwaka sports grounds will be available on Saturday and on the Sunday there will be food and drink stalls. Entry forms can be found online at www.kaiwakasports.co.nz or can be picked up from Jaques Four Square, Kaiwaka Motorcyles, Skeltons Paparoa Drapery, Mangawhai Vet Centre, Wellsford Sports & Leisure, Cartres Maungaturoto. This year nearly 40 locals will act as marshalls. For all enquiries phone Evan Wright on 431 4127 or contact Cheryl Anderson on 431 2051 or kaiwakasports@gmail.com. |
