Christmas and New Year musical feast at the tavernChristmas dinner en-tertained by a Kenny Rog-ers/Dolly Parton revival is creating heaps of nos-talgic interest and, per-formed by consummate professionals Ashley Cooper and Michael Tip-ping, patrons can be as-sured of getting a sound as near to the real thing as is possible to get.
New Year’s Eve prom-ises to be like no other. No one can challenge Hello Sailor’s place in the evolution of Kiwi mu-sic. Their debut self-titled album released in 1977 was the first locally made New Zealand record to achieve gold record status and Hello Sailor had the country at it’s feet. Graham Brazier, Dave McArtney and Harry Lyon, the three founding members and songwrit-ers, still performed and recorded together some 37 years after the incep-tion of the band in 1975. The sad loss of found-er member Dave McArt-ney in April 2013 has left the remaining band members determined to carry the Hello Sailor flag. The Hello Sailor line-up for The Mangawhai Tavern concert has founding members Gra-ham Brazier, and Harry Lyon joined by long-time drummer Rick Ball and Paul Woolright on bass, along with Stephen Small on keys (Autozam, Ham-mond Gamble Band) and Harry’s son Johnny Lyon on guitar (Luga Boa). Hello Sailor will be supported by The Dam-age. And from Chuck Berry to Florence and the Machine, We Love Rock, Blondie, U2, Stereogram, The Police, The Pretend-ers, Pat Benetar, The Ex-ponents, Queen, AC/DC – the list goes on with lo-cal band Hashtag follow-ing up with all your fa-vourite covers. |
