Creative community called for fundraiser

Part-time Mangawhai resident Annie Kitchener burst on the scene last year with her fundraising event in support of the Mangawhai Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Buoyed by that success Annie is planning another exciting event called Salsa with Sculpture In The Vines, to be held at Millars Vineyard Mangawhai, Anniversary Weekend January 2014.

Taking the form of a display and sale of what is expected to be a vast array of objet d’art, organisers are encouraging all artists and creators (including those who would just like to have a go) to get their creative juices flowing over the next couple of months.

Artists or those with even a hint of creative spirit who are interested in constructing and exhibiting sculpture or any other kind of weatherproof outdoor artwork can be part of this fun fundraising event being held to support the Mangawhai Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Entry is for everyone, individuals or businesses, from all areas.

Above all, the aim is to enjoy the time spent creating your art work whatever it is and to encourage people of all ages, lifestyles and abilities who may never have thought about creating a sculpture or artwork before to simply have a go at doing so, says Annie. Simply taking the time to create something to exhibit will show your support and greatly add to the success of this very worthwhile cause.

“Creativity is found somewhere in most people,” says Annie. “Maybe you’re a carver of sand stone, bone, wood, brick, metal, or almost anything. Maybe you’re a potter, enjoy glass mosaic work or a ceramic artist, painter, rubbish hoarder, or just simply a backyard creator who enjoys experimenting with and using recycled materials, natural resources, or any other sort of throwaway junk. The possibilities really are endless.”

There is no theme and there are no recommended or set materials to be used, but the artist/creator should consider the overall viability of the work’s structure and appearance and it’s ability to be transported, exhibited and displayed easily outdoors. There are many areas in the vineyard that will enhance your display.

Participation is free. This an exhibition rather than a competition and there will be no set prizes however there will be two people’s choice awards announced at the close of the event, including a special award for the best overall sculpture formed of re-cycled materials.

It is intended all artworks will be put up for silent auction during the event, the proceeds of which will go directly to the Mangawhai Volunteer Fire Brigade.
