Full moon lights up MangawhaiKnown to scientists as a pedigree moon, Earth's neighbour has appeared at its largest and brightest recently compared to other full moons when it orbits closer to our planet. A supermoon will happen three times this year, with the third to take place on September 9. At its closest point, the moon will be 356,896km from Earth, the closest since 1930. It will be another 20 years before the moon comes as close as it has in the current cycle say experts. Viewing depended on the amount of cloud in the area but Mangawhai shutterbugs were on the spot to get some great shots of the latest phenomenon a couple of weeks ago. |
