Did you knowMore good news for museum funds
Museum volunteers could not be more pleased. The Easter Book Fair attracted crowds of happy readers, purchasing over $12,000 worth of donated books. Fundraising to have museum displays ready for a planned December opening has really been stepped up, and together with the recent bowls tournament, garage sale and golf tournament over $30,000 has been added to the coffers. Further good news from the Lotteries Commission advises the Historical Society of their successful application for digital and display area lighting with a grant of $137,000. This is really putting the pressure on volunteers to have everything ready! If you would like to join the groups which meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 9am til noon preparing exhibits, photographing, cataloging and doing computer entries, please contact Christine Bygrave on 431 2057. Help Trust keep on track There are a lot of extremely active people in the community who put in a lot of voluntary hours. Those amazing track cutters have managed to take the Waterfall Track right up to the kauri dam and link it up with the Tanekaha Track. Lots more challenging work to create safe access, and those who have walked up to the first waterfall will realise just how much effort will be needed to complete the track formation. Mangawhai Tracks Charitable Trust has attracted a sturdy team of track cutters who meet every Friday morning, and they would love some more help. Contact either Mike 431 5443 or Gordon 431 5779. When you walk these tracks you may well spot cage traps for possums, stoats, etc. With the kiwi located close by, predator control is vital. Feral cats are of great concern and numbers trapped are quite concerning. Business back, and blooming Did you know we have a local florist again? There was a good response, with the most valuable one being information about an available app for your phone, iPad or device called AED locations/NZ. Put in your location and it will list the closest defibrillators. In Mangawhai, we have St John Op Shop, Mangawhai Dental, Mangawhai Club, Golf Club, Medical Centre, Fire Station, Surf Club, Kingsview Estate. Mangawhai Beach School also has one in the office, available during school hours. The app, of course, relies on people advising the location of these potentially life saving machines. Sharpen up those reflexes! No one from Mangawhai will be competing at the World Veteran Table Tennis Championships being held in Auckland this month.
