You know Mangawhai is almost consistently warmer than the surrounding districts. Well that's what the external temperature gauge tells me when I'm coming home in my van. There's a reason we chose to live in Mangawhai and it's the same as most who come to visit and who live here permanently – lifestyle! We love the warmer temperatures, the beautiful clear air, the sandy white surf beach and warm shallows of the harbour.
However we are going through a transition now. It’s getting a touch cooler in the mornings and there’s a nip to the air in the evening. We're preparing the firewood and readying ourselves for winter. The vege garden is changing, courgette plants are coming out and cabbage seedlings are going in the ground.
But there's another tradition we do this time of the year which you might like to do too: We hang the brightest, summeryest, most colourful artwork everywhere. Inside, outside, in the hallway, lounge, office, out in the garden, on the vege patch wall. Wherever there's a gap, we hang a surfboard picture, a bikini on the clothesline or a secluded beach landscape in the garden.
What’s all this you may ask. Why? Well, for us there's something special about the reminder of summer – cicadas singing, warm sunny days and those balmy tropical nights. Sure we have the memory but we also surround ourselves in the imagery.
Welcome to Autumn and Welcome to my World of Colour! Come and visit us over the Easter Weekend – we would love to see to see you and love to show you our World of Endless Summer!
