WAIPU MAKES THE COVER of the 2016 Classic New Zealand calendar. Only 1000 copies are printed and available from Whitcoulls Stores now. The licensed images are created by Contour Creative Studio in Kaiwaka.

NEW TRANSFER STATION HOURS are being introduced this summer, starting on 16 November and extending to 28 March next year. Uretiti will be open seven days a week (that’s 43 hours a week). Times vary and can be viewed on our website wdc.govt.nz under the Water & Waste tab.

THE MARSDEN LIONS Ruakaka Christmas Parade on Saturday 19 December. Contact them to register a float on (09) 433 0452. Mark the date in your calendar. Marsden Lions Club do amazing things for our community.

RUAKAKA BEACH YOGA has found a new home at the Rec Centre opposite the library in Takutai Place following the demolition of the hall at Paradise Shores. Long-time beach resident Karen Verbeet set up the group so locals could develop their yoga practices with a sense of community. BLACK GRACE DANCE GROUP are performing their 20th anniversary tour in the Celtic Barn on November 12. The world class group was founded by Neil Ieremia in 1995, who draws from his Samoan and New Zealand roots to create innovative dance works that reach across social, cultural and generational barriers. Tickets just $20 at the door from 6.30pm, show starts 7.30pm.

RUAKAKA SURF LIFESAVING has junior surf club for kids aged 4-13. They will learn surf sports and water safety, have heaps of fun, make new friends and belong to an awesome club. RUAKAKA PRIMARY SCHOOL is collecting old mobile phones. Please bring them into the school where they gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits as well keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. WAIPU TEENAGE THRASH metal band Alien Weaponry have been awarded a $10,000 ‘Making Tracks’ grant from NZ On Air to complete recording and produce a video for their song, Ruana Te Whenua (The Trembling Earth). The three boys from Waipu, were one of just 12 acts selected from a pool of 123 to receive the $10,000 grant, and, with an average age of 13, are believed to be the youngest artists ever to be funded directly by NZ On Air.
