Letter to the EditorMangawhai move to Auckland? Residents could reasonably expect the council to attempt to repair its shattered reputation by protecting and co-operating with them over the plan change application at Mangawhai Central. Apparently this is not the case . Cash strapped councils in NZ with a poor history of maintaining uncorrupted democracy have proved to be easy pickings for overseas investors with deep pockets Inevitably these investors have no interest in addressing the planning preferences of the communities they disrupt, following instead their own shady self-serving agendas in conjunction with their local regulatory authorities. Can I suggest that ‘Mangawhai Matters’ treats as a priority the development of a plan to begin negotiations with the Minister Of Local Government with a view to extricating Mangawhai from KDC and joining Auckland Council. With the number of Auckland people now living in Mangawhai the cultural shift would hardly be noticed and the community would at least know it was part of a transparent and viable local government structure.
