Tara Iti hosts third annual Shorebird Trust charity golf tournamentNearly 60 golfers representing 14 organisations raised close to $40,000 on May 3 when Tara Iti Golf Club hosted their third Annual Shorebirds Trust Charity Golf Tournament The Trusts priority for the funds raised from this year’s tournament is research, and they have partnered with DOC, Te Uri o Hau, and environmental planning and design consultancy BoffaMiskell to provide the financial support for the science underpinnings of the Fairy Tern Recovery Plan.
Current ongoing research projects under the plan include a three year genetics project, review of captivity breeding research and a chick feeding study. The Tara Iti team provided participants with warm hospitality and a great day of Golf on the recently ranked world class course. Tournament players enjoyed an 18 hole two best net stableford tournament. Specialty prizes were also awarded for closest to pin and long drive. The club says it was a pleasure to host the tournament for a third year running and to continue to support the trust and their work in relation to the preservation and conservations of fairy terns and other at-risk shorebirds. “This event could not have been made possible without the generosity of our membership and other business associates,” said Tara Iti general manager Matt Guzik. “Our third Shorebirds Trust Charity Golf Tournament at Tara Iti has been a great success. It provided us another opportunity to support our local community and a big thank you goes out to all the players as well as the Tara Iti team and caddies for making this day an exciting and successful fundraising event.” |
