Report incidents so we know about them say police

Te Arai Point was the site of carnage on July 24 as ‘feral yobbos’ – described as such by one local who does not wish to be named – decided to use the serene reserve as a burn-out pad.

Gaining access to the green grass areas by dragging away one of the massive rocks, which ironically are positioned to prevent vehicle access, the offenders then proceeded to rip up and down the reserve tracks, leaving the walking tracks difficult to use. The culprits also appeared to remove foliage at one stage after their vehicle possibly became stuck in the dirt.

“Really sad that this new reserve is being abused like this,” the local says. “Some people don’t deserve the environment they have.”

Although police were not aware of the incident, Sergeant Rainer Coetzee says he would like to hear about random acts of vandalism.

“Nothing was reported to police in regards to this but as always, I encourage people to report these types of incidents so that we can have a better awareness of what’s happening in the area. The public can always call 105 or visit the 105 website which will ensure it gets reported and addressed.”

In relation to a couple of local burglaries at Kaiwaka Motorcycles and the other at Jaques Four Square at the end of July, police have had some relative success.

We have also increased our police presence in the form of Prevention Patrols to help reassure the community.”

Vandals have gained vehicle access to grass areas at Te Arai beach, turning them to mud with burnouts. Tracks and foliage were also damaged. PHOTOS/SUPPLIED
