A haven at The Oaks in Warkworth

oaks-206There comes a time when the upkeep of your home or property becomes a chore and a trouble-free version of comfort and convenience is desired.

If you are looking for a change in lifestyle which provides the assurance of safety and security together with full independence and the options of activity and entertainment, The Oaks on Neville, in the heart of Warkworth, is just such a place.

The Oaks is a unique retirement community where you will have time to focus on the things you enjoy most. The lifestyle can be as busy or as peaceful as you want. Multi storey and multi faceted, the complex of modern design with upmarket facilities blends admirably with the old and the new of its central-town environment – another advantage for residents.

New, well-appointed one, two and three bedroom apartments with private balconies must appeal to the most discerning of couples or singles. Recreational options include a lounge with billiards table, library, gym, spa, swimming pool and sauna. Supermarkets, banks, medical services, the post office and so much more are within easy walking distance. Residents can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the lovely Mahurangi River bank or visit one of the nearby parks.

There is a popular cafe on site and restoration work has begun on the historic Warkworth Inn, which is an integral part of the village. Once renovation is completed the much-loved landmark will provide a hub for village residents and the public alike with a gastro pub and restaurant on the ground level. If you need to get away for a bit there are numerous lovely beaches nearby and the wineries and weekly markets at Matakana are but a few minutes drive away.

There is ample resident and visitor parking and it’s a handy drive for family members either from Auckland or the north. The Oaks also has an electric courtesy car available for the use of residents.

With a total of 62 units The Oaks on Neville is owned by the Real Living Group, which is New Zealand family owned and operated. Real Living Group has more than 25 years experience in retirement living and has three other villages in the Auckland area. Obviously proud of the complex, manager Christine Hill says “we take pride in the friendly, caring service we can offer to our residents, exceeding the expectations of them and their families.”

Waipu couple make the move

Goldthorpe-328Steve and I moved to the Oaks on Neville, part of the Real Living Group, just four weeks ago, but our love affair with the place started four months ago. Having made the decision to downsize from our beautiful villa in Waipu, and trying to be a little more practical about our retirement living, we fixed our preferred area to be in Warkworth/Orewa.

We looked at other retirement villages but despite being lovely they didn’t answer our criteria. We wanted somewhere where we were in a hub, could become a part of the outside community and didn’t need to drive. The Oaks is perfect. From day one in February the staff have been helpful and supportive and have listened to us about our needs. They are a delightful crew.

Since our move a month ago we have been well placed to attend our Scottish country dancing commitments in Northland and dances in the Auckland area too. We have been swimming every morning we’ve been here and it’s paying off with our improved health. We look forward to having a meeting with the personal trainer to learn how to use the gym too and to have a fitness regime worked out for us.

We are an hour nearer to our grandchildren and have the benefits of free Auckland transport with our recently acquired gold cards. Our place is peaceful and quiet, the apartment is spacious whilst being easy to manage and in Warkworth we definitely have that community feel.

Don’t leave it too late folks – downsize while you can make the decisions and come and live your life as you want to, knowing that friendly support is there when you need it.
