Magical Mangawhai gala turns on the funSunshine, smiles and children’s excitement flowed as crowds flocked to Mangawhai Beach School’s annual Agriculture and Gala Day on October 22. Live entertainment, delicious food, beautiful student artworks and a variety of fun stalls offering a raft of activity from balancing on Segways to stress release of plate smashing, engaged gala-goers and helped raise $34,000 for the school. WORDS & PHOTOS/Julia Wade AERIAL PHOTO/Jason Stitt 1: Scarecrows of all character and styles greeted visitors to the day. 3: Crowds of adventurous children were keen to conquer the heights of the climbing tower. 5: Taking on the Segway challenge of balance and control was popular for all ages. 7: St John provided an enjoyable way to ride in an ambulance. 8: Soccer games, plate smashing, darts and balloons and the traditional coconut shy were among the many stalls that drew enthusiastic crowds, keen to win a prize. 10: Students relished the idea of soaking MBS Principal Aaron Kemp with wet sponges. 11: Jane Yates and the MBS Ukulele Group were among a list of singers, dancers and performers who entertained the crowds. 12: MBS Kapahaka wowed the audience with several invigorating performances. 14: Some of the woolly winners who picked up prize ribbons in a range of cateogories including rearing, novice, most bonded pair and ‘Lick, spit and polish’. 16: Dancer Olivia Platt wows the crowds with her grace and style. 17: Children’s various art works lit up the hall with bright colours and creative styles. 18: Canines showed off their many talents and style in the dog show. 19: Cayene Odi and intermediate music teacher Ben Bradley made a great duet. |
