Mangawhai Singers to take trip down memory lane

 

The Mangawhai Singers have been together since 2009. Originally started as a group who just liked to sing, it includes some talented and gifted local singers who enjoy being able to share their love of song with the community. 

Group members are drawn from all over the district, including Mangawhai, Matakohe, Maungaturoto, and Ruakaka. Age is no barrier with members aged from 16 to 80.

Over the years the group, which has never profited from their concerts, has supported hospice, St John, the Mangawhai Museum, and the Pioneer Village as well as entertaining at local functions including the RSA, especially at Christmas time, and likes to add a touch of humour to their programmes. 

The singers have been meeting weekly for several months at Alamar Crescent, Mangawhai, at the home of Bill and Christine Bygrave, where the serious practice begins. Tackling new songs keeps the group on their toes.

Currently the singers number 23, with Christine as conductor plus three musicians – Des Chitty on guitar, Reg Jaques on organ, and now Judy Faris on piano.
