Free Wi-Fi at Northland DHB sitesNorthland DHB is making free Wi-Fi available to patients and visitors from Tuesday March 1.
Patients and visitors who bring in their portable devices (e.g. laptop, smartphone or tablet) can access the internet, download files, watch video content, and send and receive emails from providers such as Gmail. The objective is to make the hospital experience more pleasant by allowing patients to maintain communication with their whanau, friends and business contacts, and also to access sources of entertainment. Wi-Fi networks are initially available at three of the four Northland DHB hospitals (Whangarei, Dargaville and Kaitaia), with the service to be expanded over the coming months. The service is provided by specialist provider Internet Kiosk Specialist Ltd (IKS), Northland DHB and healthAlliance. Brochures explaining the service will be distributed around the sites. The network has sophisticated content filtering technology which may block certain websites (including those with adult content) and user allocation of bandwidth may be restricted. |
