Wood Street and Shared Path hot topicsThe turn-out was good for the Mangawhai Combined Rebus Club November meeting, despite the car park behind the Fagan Place Hall being graded and metalled. Kaipara District Council representatives Gail Fotherington and Tim Manning were the speakers for the meeting, talking about this exact thing, and also the overall Wood Street Rejuvenation Plan. A flyover of the plan in concept stage was shown, and the many questions answered clearly meant everyone came away feeling very well informed and looking forward to completion. Tim Manning emphasised however, that this would still be a temporary solution, albeit one vastly improved on the existing situation. A great deal of community discussion has occurred with residents and business people. Apparently Mangawhai Artists Inc will be involved in signage and painting traffic directions. Following the afternoon tea break, the pair spoke about the Shared Path scheme that will eventually run from the Village to the Heads. This 3.5m wide path will start shortly, and in stages, with final completion in around ten years. This will not replace the eastern side gravel track but will be concrete and also timber boardwalk on the western side, meandering through the mangroves. First stage will be the Village to Mangawhai Central, then the next stage to ITM Hardware place level, to better enable access to MAZ. The other stages follow as funding can be obtained. n Mangawhai Combined rebus Club meets every third Thursday of the month, 2pm in the Community Hall, Fagan Place, Mangawhai Heads. Visitors welcome. Next meeting is Christmas lunch at the golf club, noon, Dec 17. Contact David Foster 027 431 5005. Tim Manning, left, answers questions from the Rebus audience. |
