Art & Tartan 10th anniversary show a triumphOct 16, 2022
After an absence of three years there were no holds barred for what many people agreed was the best show yet. Thirty amazing costumes and an equal number of masks created by primary school children were showcased in three performances to a sell-out audience. This year’s show had a new format. Director Debi Walters-Brown had created two acts, with the costumes and entertainment divided into three themed sections, before the grand finale with model Zara Jacobson emerging Marilyn Monroe-style from a birthday cake created by Freya Lynch from farm materials. Zara was accompanied by Emma Couper singing ‘Happy Birthday Art & Tartan’ to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iconic event. Winner of the Alison Turner trophy for the Most Exceptional Full Body Garment was Carole Hebberd’s ‘Hope and Deliverance’ modelled by Robert Spriggs and Marilyn Humphrey with the Art & Tartan Heritage Trophy Awarded to “Clash of the Tartans” by Lynne Dunphy modelled by Julie Duffy. A full list of winners can be found on the Waipu Museum Art & Tartan Wearable Art Facebook page.
