Library closing for new flooringKeen readers and browsers of fine books will have to go without their local library for nearly ten days as Mangawhai’s Library Hall continues with its spring spruce up. The library’s doors will close on November 11 at noon to allow for the rooms to be refurbished with fresh carpet and new shelving to be installed, and will reopen on the evening of November 20. Mangawhai Library Hall Committee President, Rosemary Browne, says the carpet is possible thanks to the Mangawhai Endowment Land Account [MELA] grant they received from the Kaipara District Council which also paid for the recent outdoor paint work. “It will be a busy week for everyone helping to pack up books, install new shelving and then putting everything back in its place for the reopening date,” Browne says. Mangawhai’s first library was originally located in a small room inside the Hall itself hence the name of the building. The current library was added on in the early 1980’s and now has a base staff of 28 volunteers as well as head librarian Jude Langmuir, ‘a fabulous bunch’ Browne says. “However I presume the carpet is also from the ‘80s too so definitely time for a change.” -- Julia Wade |
