Hey mister, can you lend me a grand? This is ambiguity at its best as, in this case, it doesn’t refer to money.
For those who may remember the Julian Slade musical Salad Days which first hit the stage in the 1950s you may recall the song line ‘I’m looking for a piano’. That is now the call from the Mangawhai Club. Under the management of Joanne Keating and her team, The Club is fashioning a variety of new activities and entertainment to better cater for the summer visitors and she sees a piano as an important addition to the furniture. “I’m wondering if there is someone out there who may be able to donate a piano to the club that they no longer have use for,”she says. “Ideally I would like a grand piano but I’ll settle for whatever may be on offer. I know there are a number of locals very capable of just sitting down at the keyboard during an afternoon and tinkling away casually which can add considerably to the club atmosphere.” In the past, the piano in the former Sail Rock Cafe in Wood St was often played by locals and passing visitors to the delight of patrons and this is something The Club would like to re-kindle. Do you, by chance, have a good piano hiding in a back room? If so please contact Joanne at The Club, (09) 431 5085. Good home assured. |
