Hakaru Hall gig to raise funds for improvementsHakaru Hall is once again set to shake the rafters and warm up a cold winters night with another rocking good time in the fine old venue. Featuring a number of local favourite bands including ukulele group Totally Uked, Bent Copper and Have You Heard, funds collected from the July 24 event will help to maintain and update the facility – which was built in 1926 – for regular users including the Northern Bass Crew, Dance Energy, local musicians and yoga enthusiasts, line dancers and the puppy training crowd, Hakaru Hall committee chair Dennis Reeve says. “As a committee we are all keen to develop the hall for the community and to this end, we are very grateful to Kaiwaka Sports Association for a generous donation which enables us to develop a plan for major accessibility improvements to our main entrance,” he says. “We are also looking for someone to help with the preparation of documents for a building consent application, so if anyone is keen to help please contact me.” Reeve, who plays lead guitar and vocals in local rock band Hakaru Jam, also says Kaipara District Council have generously supported committee efforts to upgrade the water storage and toilet facilities. “The local community has proven to be seriously willing to use the hall as a focal point for the district,” he says. “We are looking forward to a chance to extend the life of our almost-centenarian for another 50 years at least! See you ‘Down the Hall on Saturday Night’!" n Interested in helping out or want to know more about Hakaru Hall? Have a chat with Dennis, project manager for Reeve Building Ltd, on 021 062 8631.
