School Ag Day back on trackThe M. bovis problems that caused disruptions to last year’s Mangawhai Beach School Ag Day seem now to be in the past. School animal organiser Abby Meagher is calling for orphaned calves, lambs and goats that might be looking for loving homes plus families willing to rear them and parade them at the school’s annual Ag Day event, a sure sign that spring is on the way.
“I ran a survey,” says Abby “and got a lot of interest from potential participants. Local farmers are keen and show judge Karen Woolley has always been a strong supporter and by following all MPI (Ministry of Primary Industries) guidelines we’re looking forward to a successful event.” Chickens, introduced last year, will again form part of the farmyard entourage. For those interested in participating, notice will be given for an information day soon to be held at the school hosted by a farm-based industry. With the traditional Gala Day now moved to another date, Ag Day is a stand-alone event to be held on Thursday October 17 and will be followed by the traditional Otamatea Group Day at the Kaiwaka Sports Complex on Saturday October 19.
