Team effort makes Daffodil day successThe Daffodil Day Quiz Nite and auction fundraiser on Tuesday August 22 at Mangawhai Tavern has been rated an outstanding success by all who attended. Paulette Phillis and Patti Bottomley co-ordinated the event, and John Phillis, was the consummate MC, resplendant in his daffodil outfit. Generous auction prizes were supplied by Lochiel Winery, Top Catch, Mangawhai Pharmacy, Shizzaz & Jan Fisher, Orang-Otang, Echo Valley Olives, Te Whai Bay, The Waterboy, Mangawhai Landscaping and Mangawhai Tavern. Competitive auction bidding saw over $2000 raised. The event was a fore-runner to the daffodil breakfast at the Frog & Kiwi Restaurant, followed on the Friday by the annual bucket appeal which was well received by the community who gave over $7000. “We had lots of willing bucket appeal helpers,” said co-organiser Paulette Phillis, “with a couple of the menfolk taking their buckets around the industrial area also with great success.” Pictured, the Mangawhai Daffodil Day organising team. |
