iPiyoda: The new word in exerciseMulti-tasking usually means work, but not for Mangawhai dance teacher Mary Madden. We’ve come a long way since jazzercise and line dancing, and Mary’s training as a teacher and her love of ballet led to the formation of her Love 2 Dance programmes which introduced literally hundreds of school-age children to contemporary theatre and performance, exercise and enjoyment. More recently she has run yoga and pilates classes and these will continue but now, drawing on her 30 years of passion for movement, Mary is launching a new class to the community. “It is a combination of my favourite things blended together to make one fabulous class,” Mary explains. “I have taught so many kids and adults I've lost count, over 10,000 hours of classes over 13 years, but Mangawhai is growing and there are still new people out there I want to reach.” After much thought and planning Mary is about to launch “iPiyoda”, a subtle mix of pilates, yoga and dance. Regardless of age or how active you are, or aren’t, this is an exercise for everyone. Not overly active but feel you need something to suit your age and mobility? Then iPiyoda will be just the thing for you. Dance for fun and learn to move the body in different styles to all sorts of music together with the blend of yoga and pilates. Remember this is for gals and guys, and you’re not competing with anyone, just exerecising within your ability and for your own benefit. “With many years happily teaching in my home studio I feel the need to come out into the community so classes will again be held in the hall in Fagan Place, the home of Love 2 Dance, and dance again on that beautiful wooden sprung floor and wide open space!” Mary adds. No shoes and no experience needed, says Mary, just a willingness to learn, laugh and let go!
