Local fans get to meet netball starsWith netball returning to courts across New Zealand, two Wellsford netballers were overjoyed to be at the centre of the excitement at an ANZ Premiership match in Auckland on July 26.
Dominic Murray and Jasmine Williamson got their own role in the match when they led the Tactix and Stars players out on to centre court, before having a photo moment with team captains Jane Watson and Grace Kara. Dominic and Jasmine then got to watch the entire match from their very own bench, up close to the action next to the players bench. Nine-year-old Dominic, who attends Wellsford Primary School, won the opportunity to meet Tactix captain Jane Watson and Stars captain Grace Kara through the ANZ Future Captains competition. Dominic was able to bring along a friend and fellow student, eightyear-old Jasmine Williamson, for the exciting interactive experience. “My favourite part was meeting the Tactix captain Jane Watson and leading her out onto the court, she’s so tall!” said Dominic. “It’s so exciting sitting on the court and watching the game close up! All the players are so fast and tall. ANZ Head of Sponsorship, Sue McGregor, says it is wonderful to see our teams back on court and fans across the country being able to watch top class netball again with the relaunched ANZ Premiership 2020 season. With community netball clubs facing more challenges than ever right now, ANZ is supporting clubs and ambitious young netballers with uplifting experiences like the ANZ Future Captains Competition, she says. Sue says the ANZ Future Captains competition is a symbol of ANZ’s support for New Zealand netball, from the grassroots right up to the professional athletes playing in the ANZ Premiership. “We are so pleased to offer this experience to young aspiring netball players. Bringing them together to meet their heroes, the professional athletes of the ANZ Premiership, is a once-in-alifetime opportunity. “We know that standing on centre court with their favourite netball stars inspires the young players to pursue their own netball dreams.” „ Applications are still open, so anyone between the ages of 8-12 can apply to be a Future Captain too.
