For locals planning on tying the knot or looking to celebrate another special occasion, help to add a touch of authentic magic and glamour to the event can now be found in the nearby neighbourhood.

Husband and wife team Gareth Taylor and Rebekah Sulman launched their new event hire business, Taylor & Co, at the old church in Mangawhai Historic Village on July 19, surrounded by family, friends and local vendors. The location was the ‘perfect setting’ they say to unveil their exclusive collection of authentic party decor and boutique items which include a variety of glassware, crafted timber furniture and a selection of festoon lights and props such as a rustic teatree archway.

“We came across the venue while attending a documentary on Sir Edmund Hillary’s journey up the Ganges, and when the lights turned on, I looked around and thought the space would be just perfect!” Rebekah says. “Our business launch was great and Gareth and I felt really supported by the local community and other small business owners, and of course the Mangawhai Historic Village Charitable Trust. We feel really thrilled to have found such a great location and look forward to hosting more events in future with the team.”

The couple bring a wide variety of talent and skills to their new business. Gareth, who grew up local on a Te Arai farm, is the ‘maker’ and maintenance man, ‘well known for his craftsmanship, for bringing creative ideas to life’ as well as technician and logistics specialist. A registered and passionate celebrant, Rebekah has a flair in creating bespoke ceremonies of all kinds as well as an established background in sales, marketing and many years supporting and managing events around New Zealand.

“We’re mindful that people are choosing to host their events in nontraditional venues and doing plenty of DIY,” Rebekah says. “That’s what we really like about our collection; our pieces are beautifully-crafted with an organic or handmade feel to them, and provide a great backdrop for people to style the way they choose.”

Based in Tomarata, the hardworking and dedicated Taylors say they were first motivated to get into the business after realising people hosting events often had an extra expense of having to bring in quality hire items from outside the local area.

“We purchased the business after trying to find hire items for our reception – hosted under the covered yards on the farm! Events, particularly weddings, can get pretty pricey so it’s good to be able to keep those costs realistic,” Rebekah says. “There’s an amazing network of vendors in the Mangawhai and surrounding areas involved in the events and wedding industry, and we’re really excited to see Mangawhai becoming the new destination of choice for these celebrations!”

Owners, Gareth Taylor and Rebekah Sulman, were delighted to celebrate the launch of Taylor & Co Events, and aim to help others make their own memorable. PHOTOS/SUPPLIED
