Police Snippets - Thefts keep police busy

Local police have been busy attending to a range of burglaries in Mangawhai throughout May, says Constable Dale Wewege, with items stolen ranging from cars to building equipment.

On May 16, a van was stolen from Mangawhai before found crashed in Wellsford.

The young offender was arrested and is due to appear in court on one charge of unlawfully taking a vehicle.

A 31-year-old male has been arrested after committing two burglaries, on Valley and Mangawhai Roads in May.

Police were successful in recovering all stolen property and the offender is now going through the court process.

A team of builders got a shock on returning to their Wintle Street building site after the weekend of May 20-21, discovering all their power tools had been stolen.

Wewege says the tradies closed up on Friday afternoon and sometime over the weekend someone broke in and took off with the equipment.

“The gear is valuable, worth around $20,000, so if anyone has any information about the theft, please contact police.”
