Companion service overwhelmed with support

The Companion Company founders, Pauline Wilson and Shelley Rodgers, have been overwhelmed with the support shown from the community for their new venture. They say the feedback has been wide and diverse, and extremely valuable.

For those who have not yet heard about The Companion Company, it is a one-on-one service for individuals in Mangawhai and surrounding areas, who are seeking connection and companionship. Pauline, Shelley and the Companion Company team aim to support individuals with day-to-day tasks and rediscovering hobbies and interests, while simultaneously bringing joy into people’s lives.

You can expect confidential conversation and companionship with a Companion Company member of staff, who has been specifically chosen to compliment your interests and needs. You may seek a companion while shopping, walking, seeing a film or going out for coffee. Similarly, perhaps you’d like a companion to help you in the garden, show you how to use technology, make art, cook or discuss history.

“Tell us your passion, let’s do it together,” suggests Pauline. “What makes the Companion Company different is that we are primarily one-on-one, and we come to you, in your home. This service is for those who may not be able to get out to community groups, physically or emotionally.”

The Companion Company is:

Ÿ Available for your elderly mother who needs someone to come in and check up on her a couple of times a week. She just needs someone to spend some time with her so she can continue living an enriched life.

Ÿ Available for your friend whose partner is unwell, has passed, has been isolating and just needs a companion to bring in some enthusiasm and energy into their house.

Ÿ Available for you to build confidence and meaningful connections, on your time and in the safe and private environment of your own home.

“We think it is important to remember that everyone has moments of vulnerability and it can be hard to admit it when we need support,” says Shelley. “Reaching out to the services in your community is far from failure, it shows courage and a willingness to change your reality for the better. We understand the uniqueness of every client and are excited to create new connections.”

Pauline and Shelley will meet with you and discuss your needs, at your home – a no obligation, free introduction to see if and how they can be of service.

“We work out how best to support you and design a simple plan for you to consider. We have certain conditions of safety and care which we explain before we begin our services,” adds Shelley.

All contact and communication with the Companion Company will be kept 100 percent confidential. Suggested fees and donations can be negotiated.

n Pauline and Shelley would love to hear from you. Call 021 126 3234, email the.companion.co@gmail.com, or go to facebook.com/thecompanioncompany/
