Retro furniture to match classic cars

retro-85If you’re into classic cars, hot rods, motorbike and ‘that old time rock’n’roll’ you’re going to love the display of American Retro Furniture as well.

Grant and Lesley Jacobs have a lot of experience in the furniture industry, from modern to antique furniture restoration, so they know their stuff, but are now bringing their retro business to Mangawhai.

Among their repertoire you will find chairs, tables, booths and stools which can be bought individually or with options of booths sets, dinette sets, and pub table sets where you can order the most popular styles of complete sets.

If you remember the chrome-finished tubular steel chairs and tables of your parents’ day or the booths in the ice-cream parlours of the ‘50s and ‘60s, then the furniture on display will almost certainly bring a tear to your eye. Retro furniture was epitomised in movies like American Pie and Grease but seeing is believing – it’s real and it’ll be on display at the Waipu Car and Bike Show. This retro furniture has a style all of its own, it is imported direct from the manufacturers in the USA and is guaranteed commercial quality.

Grant and Lesley will be operating from the former Xspan shed on the corner of SH1 and Mangawhai Road just north of Te Hana (viewing by appointment only) and they have set up a custom-built display trailer which will contain samples of their range. Over the summer they will be following the trail of car shows which will take them from Waipu to Americarna at New Plymouth, the Beach Hop at Whangamata, and as far south as the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop at Timaru.

“We will actually be doing eight car shows between now and the end of March,” says Lesley who has been thrilled with the interest in their product which is well displayed on their website and sells all around the country. “A recent table purchase went to Nelson,” says Lesley “but it will be going to Austria when the people move in May.”

Product can be purchased by contacting them directly via phone or email, or ordered at shows. It can be customised to suit requirements or screen printed for special pieces but check out their website, then come to the car show and see for yourself.
