Police SnippetsSpeeding the big issue On June 18, a police speed camera van parked on Molesworth Drive snapped 120 motorists traveling over the 50kmh limit past the Mangawhai Activity Zone in only four hours. “This was on a Sunday, a time when a lot of children will likely be playing at MAZ,” Mangawhai Senior Constable, Graham Gough says. “Frankly I think it’s disgusting.” A number of Mangawhai residents have voiced their concern on the local Facebook page, sharing the Senior Constables disgust and showing their support for the placement of speed cameras by the Zone. “It seems Mangawhai has a got reputation for speeding and not wearing seatbelts,” Gough says. “However we’re not in the boondocks, everyone still has to comply with the law.” Camera owner found The owner was identified once police viewed the footage of the male surfer who ‘happened to fall off his surfboard quite a few times’ and posted still images on local Facebook. “Just want to say thanks to all those who responded and helped locate the owner, social media can be great like that,” Gough says. |
