Not all happy with Crown Manager reappointmentKaipara District Council has welcomed the recent announcement from the Associate Minister of Local Government, Jacquie Dean, of the reappointment of Peter Winder as Crown Manager. The continued Crown Support and direction on a range of outstanding legal matters before Council will allow the Elected Members to continue to focus on the future development of Kaipara, says KDC. Mr Winder was hastily withdrawn from the position in April due to technical uncertainties about his appointment. With these issues now resolved he has beeen reappointed by the Government to the role of consulting with KDC on technical and complex legal matters. Northland MP, Winston Peters, is scathing saying the reappointment continues a comedy of errors. “Mr Winder should never have been appointed in July last year. He was a government ‘mate’ and one of three commissioners who failed to take action against Beca, the project management company of the Mangawhai Wastewater Scheme that blew out. “The saga of a government letting its people down started with the failed scheme, then went to former Northland MP Mike Sabin’s validation of rates bill… Now we have the failed Crown Manager appointment and re-appointment.” |
