Hanging up the blue for something new

Jason Kingi in the gym-792After nearly eight years, Constable Jason Kingi has ‘retired’ from the New Zealand Police.

Jason had been stationed at Wellsford police station for the last two years of a career that started in Auckland where he was able to experience a few different roles. These included the youth action team, inquiry team, court escort, team and community policing.

Jason has had some notable achievements in is policing career including two District Commanders Commendations for ‘Courage, commitment and dedication to duty’.

Jason joined the police with a desire to help people and whie he achieved that, he found wearing the uniform had created some barriers for him to achieve that goal fully.

So when one door closes, invariably another opens. Enter the new plan, building a gym, which they literally did, from the ground up.

Just opened in Bagnall Road, Mangawhai, Level Movement Gym not only offers group fitness and personal training but also a wide range of regimes to suit all ages and abilities, illness or injury recovery, sports and competition strength and fitness, or simply the need to be more active.

Already with over 30 customers through the door the business is now settling into regular routine.

Assisted by wife Anna, their shared vision is to help people get moving, live with full mobility and avoid diseases related to sedentary lifestlyes.

Through love of all types of fitness, Jason became a certified CrossFit level 1 trainer and now recently a qualified personal trainer.

“When you are getting fit you feel good, you look good and you do good,” says Jason. “Being happy within yourself has a flow-on effect to both mind and body and also to those you live and work with.”

“You don’t need to be ‘fit’ to start,” adds Anna. “You just have to start.”
