Rodney team rides to victory

The Rodney College Silver team has won the prestigious Secondary Schools Equestrian Cup event held at Woodhill Sands Equestrian Centre on Monday August 10.

Rodney entered two teams, competing against 52 school teams from the greater Auckland area, Northland and the Waikato, including a team from Melbourne Australia.

Rodney College Silver team were the overall winner of the popular event, winning with a combined score of 66 points, 11 points ahead of the second placed team Pukekohe High School. Westlake Girls was third and Melbourne fourth.

Teams were made up of four riders, two show hunter and two show jumpers. Rodney Silver team consisted of Briar Woolley and Tamara Marshall both competing in show jumping.

In the Hack ring Briar won both the 1m and 1.05m. Tamara in the Pony ring came fourth in the Division 1 90cm and 2nd in 95cm. Aimee Young and Jade Marshall competed in show hunter with Aimee winning both the 75cm and 80cm in Division 2 Pony Ring. Jade in the Hack ring was placed sixth in both 85cm and 90cm in Division 2.

Rodney Blue team riders Brody Goodmon Preddle and Billie Mentzer rode in show jumping event. Brody in the hack ring competed in the 90cm and 95cm and placed in the top 10. Billie in the Pony ring competed in the 90cm and 95cm with two double clear rounds and was also placed in top 10. Morgan Chandler Bruce and Brooklyn Wilson competed in show hunter. Morgan in the pony ring competed in 70cm and 80cm and was placed seventh. Brooklyn had two great rounds at 85cm and 90cm.

Rodney College Equestrian team were thrilled with their outstanding result against some very competitive equestrian schools.
