Spring definitely in the air at flower showThe Mangawhai Women’s Institute (MWI) annual Floral and Craft Show, held in the village hall last month, bloomed forth with new vigour and to a record attendance despite the showery weather.
With arts and crafts events for young and old, as well as flower displays, the hall was buzzing as visitors admired the local community talent exhibited at this year’s show. The fragrance and colour from the floral and decorative section created the perfect backdrop to showcase Mangawhai’s varied creativity. All sections were well represented. Thanks to the Monday morning Art Group, the art exhibits this year were carefully arranged on the stage for all visitors to admire. Mangawhai French cook David Bonametti, from Frog & Kiwi Restaurant, was very impressed by our local cooks entered in the cooking section. He enjoyed sampling and judging the relishes, jams, marmalades, cakes, shortbread, muffins and date loaves. Like all of the other categories in the show the standard was very high. Exhibits from Mangawhai Beach School, Before Six and After Three added to the atmosphere and overall colour and interest in the show. The trading table was very popular and contributed to the overall financial success for the Mangawhai Women’s Institute. The Floral and Craft Show secretary and MWI members appreciated the generosity of the Mangawhai business community, especially Mangawhai Memo, 4 Square (Wood Street and the Village), real estate agents, cafes and small business owners who generously donated vouchers and other goods for raffles and prizes. At the end of the day there were many happy faces returning home with well-earned certificates, cups and prizes. GROWING: Show secretary Marie Fitt (pictured) says her committee are looking forward to an even bigger show next year. |
