Business for us nowAs I look back over the last two months, and now that we are open and hearing the lockdown stories and stress that our clients have been under – wow – I feel lucky and grateful that New Zealand is okay regarding Covid-19 numbers. I really appreciate the community I live in and the support from clients coming back over the last week. I've owned my own business from the age of 18 and never had I been in the position where I had to close for seven weeks and worry about reopening and what that may look like for my staff. I know that many other beauty therapists, hairdressers and massage therapists may have felt like us, a little lost, as we ‘live to care and have that close contact with our clients’. Covid-19 means distancing and as we have seen from news overseas it can be devastating. I am so happy to be back. The first one hour massage I did on one of my regular clients was as good for me as it was for her; it is so wonderful to be doing what I love again. We will continue to keep everyone safe by being careful and following health and safety guidelines, all doing our part so that hopefully we continue to go down in the levels. Stress is huge and many people have been affected. Look out for your neighbours, don't be hard on yourself if you didn't get done what you think you should have during lockdown. You survived it. I hope if your’re reading this you are okay and if not please talk to someone. n Alex Donald is owner of Pure Essence Face & Body Clinic, Waipu.
