Creative art workshops for kids over school holidaysMangawhai Artists Inc will host a number of primary school-aged holiday workshops from October 5-9 in the new Art Workspace behind the gallery. If your child enjoys creative activities and exploration then these workshops are highly recommended.
These will be the first groups to use the new workspace and the committee is thrilled to see all their hard work come to fruition and the overwhelming public support. The program starts with tie dyeing on October 5 from 9.30am – 12.30pm and is suitable for children aged 8 and over. Each child can bring three items of clothing and will be able to create patterns and then tie dye them. The tutor is Karen Williamson and the cost is $30. In the afternoon Raewyn Vague is offering introductive quilling for 8–10-year-olds. Also called paper filigree, this workshop involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative designs. The cost is $35 and includes all materials. She is also offering an afternoon class on October 6 for children aged 10 and older. Nicola Everett is running morning programs in print, painting and collage on October 6, 7 and 8 at a cost of $100 total for the three consecutive mornings, for 6–10-year-olds. The cost includes all art materials. The children will be drawing and experimenting with paint, ink and dye. Karen Williamson is offering a photo safari class on October 7 from 1pm–3.30pm for budding and emerging young photographers aged 8 and over. They will need to bring a camera or phone camera and the cost is $25. Last but not least Andy Griffiths has an exciting workshop on cartooning on October 9 in the morning. Children will learn how to create cartoon characters and comic strips. This would be a dream class for many young people.
