Controversial political party AdvanceNZ attracted a large crowd to a recent meeting in Mangawhai, the 100 strong audience of supporters and the curious apparently eager to hear what the new-politicians-onthe-block had to say about ongoing global events and their political stance.

Held at Mangawhai Library Hall on the night of September 9, the meeting was opened by AdvanceNZ, New Zealand Public Party (NZPP) Northland candidate Nathan Mitchell, who stated ‘we’re not here because we have political aspirations, we are here because the current circumstances and the situation demands that we stand’, and introduced co-leader Billy Te Kahika to enthusiastic applause.

Te Kahika, who coleads NZPP with former National member JamiLee Ross, began with a karakia before describing NZPP’s fast-tracked journey into the political arena, and outlined the party’s political campaign, beliefs and objectives.

“Advance New Zealand is not a Covid-19 party, we are an all-issues party… although we are born out of the Covid-19 crisis,” Kahika says. “The reason why I’m standing here today, and why you are here, is because we all know that something is not right, and hasn’t been so for decades in New Zealand.”

Officially registered with the Electoral Commission on August 6, NZPP is often regarded as a ‘conspiracy party’ with claims that Covid-19 is a hoax. However the party states this is false – they are questioning how the government has responded to the crisis and what they believe is the resulting ‘rapid destruction of democracy’.

While at level 4 lockdown at his rural Northland property with his wife and young children, the 48-year-old blues guitarist, businessman, former police officer and NZ Army soldier – who also passed the military’s basic intelligence training and spent 25 years studying politics and religion – decided to put his ‘military intelligence cap’ on and research the Covid-19 crisis.

“I started to see some discrepancies between experts around the world who were meant to be on the same team… even though they were drawing details from the same info pool,” he says. “I created a road map… showing the chain of active players and identifying the actions and outcomes that are tied to these people involved with Covid-19. I then started to look for alternative information.”

Besides talking on Covid-19, including the effects of lockdowns, Te Kahika also spoke on the alleged hidden intentions of ‘Agenda 21’ – the United Nations 1992 Environment and Development declaration – and queried the qualifications of NZ director general of health Ashley Bloomfield and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s political intentions, describing her as the ‘matriarch of globalism’. How NZPP plan to restore democracy, the economy and government integrity were also outlined.

“NZPP has done something no other political movement has ever done in New Zealand history… usually it takes many weeks, months or sometimes years to get the necessary 550 registered members… when we launched we did it in two days,” he says. “Eleven weeks later we had 7000 registered members, on top of that we have nearly 60 candidates across New Zealand… and are now one of the most high-profile political parties.”

Besides a large social media following, in July 29’s Colmar Brunton poll, Te Kahika was ranked third equal along with Winston Peters, David Seymour, and National’s Christopher Luxon as the country’s preferred prime minister, which ‘shocked the heck out of me’ he says.

“However it’s not about me,” Te Kahika says. “What it is about is the voracity of the importance and the truth of the message we have.”

Should we have a Covid-19 public health response bill that destroys rights and freedoms, asks NZPP co-leader Billy Te Kahika.
