Crime - Community needs to be on the lookoutOver recent months various equipment has been stolen from different locations in Mangawhai, police say. In early October a califont was ripped from its attachments at the site of the new child education centre, Miniwhais, currently still under development, and Mangawhai Beach School has also fallen victim Senior Constable Rob Cato says. “The schools pool shed was broken into mid-October and a pool pump taken. If anyone has any information please contact local police,” he says. “In light of the thefts, we would like to remind the community to be on the lookout, report suspicious activity, and secure pumps and property appropriately.” Roaming dogs have also been causing trouble recently, with police receiving reports of canines wandering onto neighbouring properties and killing other animals. “Basically the dogs are not under control or secured appropriately on rural and residential properties… resulting in some building tension which we are aware of,” he says. “Police would like to remind dog owners that they are responsible for securing and controlling their dogs. Good relationships with neighbours and in the neighbourhood are important in relation to preventing and reporting suspicious activity and crime.” REPORTING/JULIA WADE |
