Top Energy and Northpower backing business awards

Steve Smith copy (1)-363Businesses from throughout Te Tai Tokerau are being encouraged to enter the 2021 NorthChamber Business Excellence Awards.

The call comes from new major sponsors Northpower and Top Energy.

With entries now open, the locally owned companies want businesses from throughout rural and urban Northland to enter the awards and test their business acumen against the best in the region.

Northland’s two consumer-owned electricity lines companies have joined forces to promote business development and growth around the awards, a move welcomed by NorthChamber chief executive Steve Smith.

“It is great having two of Northland’s strongest and longest-established infrastructure businesses getting behind the awards,” says Smith.

“Top Energy, Northpower and their staff are immersed in the community and do so much for the community, so having them back the very essence of the NorthChamber Business Excellence Awards and supporting business improvement in the region is really powerful.”

There is no cost to enter the awards and you do not need to be a member of NorthChamber to enter.

Top Energy and Northpower remain strong advocates of investing in building local business capability, while also celebrating businesses throughout Northland.

Top Energy chief executive Russell Shaw says developing principles of business excellence can only be good for the region – a point backed by Northpower chief executive Andrew McLeod.

“As locally-owned companies who are owned by their consumers, we have a role in the community to support the growth and development of local businesses,” says McLeod.

“We want to facilitate strengthening our business community and we see sponsoring the awards as a sensible way to help make that happen.”

Shaw believes it is also a chance to celebrate the variety of business in Northland and the high standard so many of them achieve.

“The resilience we have seen in Northland businesses, despite the adversity they have been through with Covid is really impressive. I think that as a community, Northlanders have come together and supported each other extremely well and that really mirrors the values that Top Energy and Northpower as Trust-owned businesses must live and operate by every day,” says Shaw.

Both men agree that the 2021 NorthChamber Business Excellence Awards are an ideal platform to celebrate the business acumen of locals.

“The value of the awards is not about winning but being part of the process so people can look into their business performance, see how they have progressed and look for areas of innovation and improvement. There have been many instances over the years of businesses not making the finals or winning first time around but they bounced back

in subsequent years and won a category. That’s what it is all about – striving to be better.”

NorthChamber says there are significant benefits for all businesses who enter, including free independent feedback and recommendations on building business capability.
