Outgoing MAI chair celebrated for serviceHighly respected Mangawhai Artists Inc chair, Mary-Anne Boyd, has been celebrated for her leadership and contribution to the group – and wider Mangawhai creative community – at the organisation’s recent AGM. Boyd has stepped down from her role as chair after four years, and a further two years as a committee member. Under her leadership the organisation has won two awards for excellence, membership has risen, the new Art Workspace has been fundraised for and built, the gallery has been rebranded, and the gallery’s reputation for outstanding exhibitions has grown. “Mary-Anne has built on the foundations of those who established and previously led Mangawhai Artists, and has strengthened the organisation through a focus on governance and structure, on being clear on mission and vision,” said incoming chair Belinda Vernon. “With her ‘can do’ attitude, her drive, her energy and her caring nature, Mary-Anne has been an outstanding leader. Her vision, enthusiasm, commitment, passion and leadership has left an indelible mark on Mangawhai Artists.” A feature of Boyd’s time at the helm, says Vernon, was her emphasis on community and making things happen. In a written message, Creative Northland general manager Hinu te Hau described Boyd as ‘very kind, considered, tenacious, connected, collaborative. A real multi-tasker with a strong love of the community. A star!’ Mary-Anne received a standing ovation from the meeting. The new committee elected for 2021-2022 is: Belinda Vernon (Chair), Clare Wells (Secretary), Raewyn Vague (Treasurer), Chris den Hartogh, Ann Connew, Howard Esler, Marion Bilton, Chris Cowley Thomson, Philippa Murray-Aynsley, Deb Hunter-Whitlock.
