Back to the future Back to the future for retro storeThe quaint, quirky and colourful retro cake tins, containers and furniture of yesteryear is attracting a new generation of collector.
Mary Kelliher’s home-based Beach, Bach and Beyond shop at Sailrock Drive attracts a steady stream of lookers and pointers. The fascinating shapes of egg beaters, can openers and potato mashers gathered by today’s bach-dwellers are not only as useful as they were originally but also a source of light and bright discussion with many of our tech-savvy youngsters barely able to imagine or master the function of such ‘machinery.’ Pre-Tupperware metal cake tins in their bright colours and sporting a specific brand of biscuit or a prominent tourism spot are still a very functional holiday bach apparatus. Cushions, Kiwiana and kitchenalia round off the stock range so if you want to outfit your holiday hideaway and make every day funky and fun, B,B & B is the place to visit. Mary (pictured above) also has a growing following country-wide for her historical murals, ‘handmade stories’, which may also be on display. n Beach, Bach & Beyond, 3 Sailrock Drive, Mangawhai.
